A Grand Night for Dancing

by Dana Taylor

Over 1,100 people packed the La Mirada Theatre last saturday evening to hear the “Celebration of Dance” concert. We expanded our advertising efforts and reached a broader audience. The Long Beach Association for the Blind brought a van; a retirement home bus pulled in; high school students packed the balcony and an Internet dating group used the occasion to mix and mingle. Not to mention our faithful core audience appears to be growing!

Frelly PR PhotoAnd with good reason. Dr. Frelly and the La Mirada Symphony musicians presented an entertaining mix of classical dance pieces that have been delighting audiences for centuries. We musically traveled across Europe through Vienna, France, Hungary and the Czech Republic. We heard the music of kings, kaisers, and commoners. The encore brought us home to America with a rousing rendition of the Hoe-Down from Aaron Copland’s “Rodeo.”

The audience responded with enthusiastic applause and pitched their dollars into the donation bowls on the way out. It was a grand evening! “Celebration of the Masters” is just around the corner on February 23.

The season ends April 6th with the two POPS concerts. We’re trying something totally new for the La Mirada Symphony. The free admission 3 pm concert will be the symphony-only presenting a Broadway lineup. The evening concert is our first-ever Fundraiser Benefit featuring Tony-nominated Susan Egan. Tickets range from $20-$70. We’d love to fill the house and our coffers. A strong financial position will ensure the music keeps playing. Buy your tickets today through the La Mirada Theatre You’ll be supporting the symphony and you’ll enjoy a wonderful evening of fabulous entertainment.
