Featured Artist for May Concert: Johnathan Po
This Sunday, May 20, the La Mirada Theatre proudly presents the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) orchestra. The concert will feature three student soloists.
Although he started playing piano at the age of six, Johnathan Po discovered his true love for piano in eighth grade when he played his very first concerto, Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2, 1st movement. Ever since then, Jonathan, with the support of his family & dedicated teacher, Mark Richman, a notable master teacher, has devoted himself to become an aspiring musician. During his freshman year of high school, Jonathan was part of a Junior Chamber Music (JCM) quartet. In the five years that he participated in the Southwestern Youth Music Festival (SYMF), he won six prizes, two of which were 1st-place prizes. He has been the winner of many Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) competitions including the State Concerto competition. He won 2nd prize in the International Romantic Competition in 2015, and was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in 2016. He is currently a senior at Sunny Hills High School, Fullerton, California. Rewarded with a four-year guaranteed music scholarship, Jonathan will be attending the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, in the fall of 2018.
