Keeping Classical Music Free for the Community

The La Mirada Symphony Orchestra proudly continues its long-standing tradition of offering free, high-quality concerts to the residents of Southern California. Since its founding, the Symphony has committed to making classical music accessible to everyone, regardless of income or background.

What Does a Free Concert Cost?

While concerts are free to attend, they are far from free to produce. The actual cost of each concert reaches approximately $15,000. This includes expenses such as venue operations, professional musician fees, sheet music, rehearsal time, and other production elements that ensure a world-class musical experience for our audience.

A Vision That Began with One Woman’s Dream

La Mirada resident and concert pianist Blanche Nissim envisioned a local symphony orchestra that would enrich the lives of the community. She gathered a passionate team of advocates and local musicians who brought that dream to life. Their mission was clear:

  • Offer free concerts to residents who value the cultural and emotional power of music

  • Create performance opportunities for local musicians

That mission still lives on today.

Evolving with Excellence

The orchestra has transformed over the years—from a group of hobbyist volunteers to an ensemble that includes many professional musicians. While this growth has elevated the quality of our performances, it has also increased our operational costs. At a time when public funding for the arts is shrinking, the support of individual donors becomes more critical than ever.
