Exciting Program Lineup

The program also highlights talented young musicians from the Whittier Branch of the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) in inspiring student concertos. The musicians will be selected on February 1, 2025.

A Celestial Experience with Holst’s “The Planets”

A true highlight of the event will be the full performance of Gustav Holst’s iconic orchestral suite, “The Planets.” This monumental work, performed in its entirety, takes listeners on a mesmerizing journey through the solar system. Each of the seven movements—“Mars, the Bringer of War,” “Venus, the Bringer of Peace,” “Mercury, the Winged Messenger,” “Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity,” “Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age,” “Uranus, the Magician,” and “Neptune, the Mystic”—captures the essence of the planets through music, portraying their mythological and astrological characteristics.

Adding dimension to the concert will be the Women’s Choir of the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA).

“We are beyond thrilled to present this special concert to our wonderful community. ‘Reaching for the Stars’ is more than just a performance,” said Mautner. “From the powerful emotions of Beethoven to the cosmic grandeur of Holst, this concert promises to be an unforgettable experience.”
